"Activation key invalidated" issue - a new discovery
OldSkool replied to eaglerock's topic in EyeTV 4 (MacOSX APP)
I have the original .dmg from when I purchased the software in 2024, but this forum no longer allows links to be posted, so I have no idea how I could get it to you. Also, since I've never subscribed to any EPG service (i just use the over-the-air DVB-T guide), I have no idea whether the error message would be in German in my build if I could trigger that error anyway. Does it matter? Just copy and paste the text into Google Translate if you want to know what it says. Even then, there's nothing you can do about it, Geniatech is no longer supporting or developing this product. -
"Activation key invalidated" issue - a new discovery

I provided a link to all the MacOS builds in English above, in my post dated March 23, 2025. It seems if I try to post that link again, I get a message saying my post needs to be approved by a Moderator - which will never happen because Geniatech has abandoned this forum and EyeTV. So look at the link above. My EPG error messages are in English - namely "Update failed (could not connect to server)" Manual EPG updating using over-the-air DVB-T guide still works. Go to the "Built-In Guide" (click "Program Guide" in the left pane of the EyeTV window, else click ⌘-G). Once that is selected, right-click while the mouse pointer is still hovering over "Program Guide". A submenu will appear, click "Update DVB Program Guide". EyeTV will then scan all the DVB-T channels in sequence and update the guide. Unfortunately, there is no direct menu command or keyboard shortcut to activate this. You now have to do it manually periodically. -
MacOS 26 (Tahoe) supports Rosetta, and EyeTV 4 still works (I know, because I upgraded to Tahoe once others here confirmed it still worked). MacOS 27 will likely still support Rosetta, and EyeTV 4 should continue to work. But MacOS 28 is likely to abandon support for Rosetta, and EyeTV 4 will die at that point. The odds of Geniatech rebuilding the code to work natively on Apple Silicon at that point is 0.00001%.

Yep I noticed this too. The final successful update was on 19 October 2025. Since that date, we get the Update failed (could not connect to server) error. Geniatech appears to be slowly abandoning anything to do with EyeTV. They certainly will never update the software ever again (even though they still sell v4.0.0 (8532) which was released in 2020). We are lucky they at least made it as far as a 64-bit version that runs on Apple Silicon, and that it still works on MacOS Tahoe (26). But at some point, a MacOS update will break EyeTV and that will be that. Over-the-air DVB-T guide updates within EyeTV still work.

Thanks for being "brave" and updating your MacOS. I have been delaying my update to Tahoe for precisely this reason - if EyeTV ever stopped working under a new MacOS then I'd be devastated. So I always defer OS upgrades and wait until someone else has done it, and now I'm going to take the plunge 😁

Eye TV 4 does not recognise my activation code
OldSkool replied to Francisco's topic in EyeTV 4 (MacOSX APP)
I'm afraid there is no "customer service" or "customer support" from Geniatech any more regarding EyeTV, even though they are still selling the software 🤷♂️ That means they will never respond to any cases. Sorry. This forum of the last dozen or so interested users is your only hope. -
can anyone recommend a usb to usb-c converter?
OldSkool replied to Sylvest's topic in EyeTV 4 (MacOSX APP)
I see no reason why a USB-A to USB-C adaptor (not "converter") would not work. An adaptor is a passive pass-through device, no electronics. Just like a USB-A to USB-C cable is just wires and nothing else. I suspect the problem lies elsewhere. I have heard that the eyetv Hybrid stick does not play nice with recent Mac OS. Also there were EyeTV 4 issues going to Sequoia, but see separate thread for how people fixed that. -

What about 8532?

"Activation key invalidated" issue - a new discovery

Here’s all the MacOS builds. There was not an 8530: https://www.geniatech.eu/support/eyetv-4-en/ -
"Activation key invalidated" issue - a new discovery
OldSkool replied to eaglerock's topic in EyeTV 4 (MacOSX APP)
Geniatech has completely lost interest in EyeTV. The software hasn’t been updated for nearly 5 years now. I’d be astonished if there was ever another update. Instead, I expect that at some point in the future, a MacOS update will break EyeTV4 completely and that will be that. I have contacted Geniatech a few times with technical questions but in recent years they have never responded. The most recent time I raised a case and they actually responded was in 2018. So unfortunately you are probably wasting your time contacting Geniatech. For all we know, it is a black hole and no-one there ever reads emails. The only bit of Geniatech that still works is the online software ordering and payment form - which is all automated. At least that worked last year when I bought EyeTV4 and got the activation key for it, since I finally got a new Mac that could not run EyeTV 3. Regarding the EPG, I do not use a third party EPG, I only use the over-the-air DVB-T guide which updates just fine. I don’t think there was an intermediate build 8530. -
Thanks to the posts here I had the courage to upgrade from MacOS 14 to MacOS 15.3.2 on a Mac Mini 2023 running EyeTV 4.0.0 (8532) and an eyeTV for DTT stick running firmware 102.17. I got it working but not without a couple of hiccups first. The signal quality and strength initially showed as really poor (10-20%) and the live TV window was extremely choppy and pixelated. I tried unplugging and reinserting the DTT stick but no improvement, then a reboot still no improvement. I then did a simple channel rescan in EyeTV and everything came good, signal quality and strength showing as 100%. It’s a shame Geniatech has completely lost interest in this product and sorry @ATSC-user EyeTV will probably never make it past v4.0.0. The software was last updated nearly 5 years ago now. Even fixing the “Eye TV quit unexpectedly” error on normal quitting would be nice… but I don’t expect it will ever happen. If and when a future MacOS update breaks EyeTV 4, I reckon that will be the end of the road for EyeTV and the tuner hardware. Sad.
