I also have a not working editor in EyeTV 4. To trim my recording I copy the recordings to an old mac which have v. 3 installed (but no tuners), edit the recordings there, move the finished recordings back to the first mac and use Plex on that machine. I will try using Plex to do the recordings since EyeTV 4 cannot edit the recordings, cannot record concurrent shows from the same mux and doesn't support my HDHomeRun Quatro.
