EyeTV 4 with macOS Monterey?

Recommended Posts

Well I have tried to get a call back 6 times now in the last few weeks. They say they will call back etc but never do so I don't know what to do now. I get no video with Monterey 12.3. Any ideas anyone please ??

Hello,

For me before my Eyetv 4 key was invalidated, I have tested a little Eyetv 4 on MacBook Air M1 (Monterey) with a Eyetv Diversity

as you, lot of stuttering and dropped frames with my EyeTV Diversity but only in live TV

because I don't use EyeTV to play record, I use IINA, with IINA it was very smooth and low resource consumption

In the end I gave up with EyeTV. No support, the issues not fixed. I switched to the satellite setup of my smart TV (Philips). No dropped frames or stuttering. I wish you all the best of luck with EyeTV, if you are planning on sticking with it. A shame. It was very good when it worked...

What is annoying is that you ring up and say they will call back but never do, almost like they are playing games, bizarre. so it works fine with big sur then just not monterey ?

in my side it was Monterey 12.3

Monterey is a recent Mac OSX version, it should be good to say with which version, there is a problem or it works

Hello

Someone can please try Eyetv 4 (8519)

i was Mojave user before my mac M1

and i have downgraded my mac M1 from Monterey to Big Sur to try if it is better

i have the same problem, lot of stuttering and dropped frames

I have tried all channels and suprise, there is 3 channels i work fine and 34 channels lot of stuttering and dropped frames

There is have tried all Eyetv version 4 found on Geniatech website, none is working

i have checked in external hdd backup, i have four versions but only one is working 8519, the original name is : Geniatech_eyetv_4.dmg

i have downgraded my mac M1 to Big Sur if someone can confirm it works for him with Monterey on mac M1 with EyeTV 4 (8519)

I have a eyeTV Diversity and dual turner and all channels and record 2 channels work fine with EyeTV 4 (8519)

I have not enabled internet on my mac M1 until my license problem for EyeTV 4 is solved

Well, this link leads to version 8527 which reports stability fixes for Monterey. But haven't tried it since I still use Eye TV 4 (8526) with Big Sur (and have no problems and don't miss 3.6.9 at all):

https://www.geniatech.eu/download/eyetv-4-0-0-8527-64-bit-mac-version/

Yes, that is a new version number that they recently posted, and I just installed it yesterday. But when I open the app and look at the version number, it is still showing as 8526... so there is something wrong.

Hello

I foget to disable my internet connection and i have still not news from the support for my EyeTV 4 license problem

i have done a new install Monterey and Eyetv 4 (8519)  work fine as under Big Sur

With other EyeTV 4 version, there is 3 channels that work fine and 34 channels lot of stuttering and dropped frames, it is same under Monterey and Big Sur

Then the problem is not OSX version, there is a bug with some Eyetv 4 version for some channel in some country and/or bug with some tv device.

i'm in France and i use an EyeTV Diversity.

And everything work fine for me only with this version : Eyetv 4 (8519)

I was in contact with Geniatech support about this matter. I got very confusing answers. Like this: "Version 8527 (This is an advanced 8526, although its name still shows version 8526. But it is version 8527)".

The trick was to completely uninstall the current version of EyeTV using the 64-bit Eyetv-Reporter app.

The link for it: https://www.geniatech.eu/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/64-BIT-Eyetv-Reporter.zip

Then install the the "new" version (8527 -  that actually in no way show that this is version 8527, only 8526 is shown...???). I am really chocked about the way that the software development has stalled so totally. Lots of bugs and errors still present. App has been on version 4.0.0 (which actually in practice means Beta) for over 2 years.

Problem is, that there is absolutely NO WAY to confirm, that you have installed a new version. In my 30+ years of being an IT professional I have NEVER seen an update to a commercial app handled so poorly.

I am still considering upgrading my MacMini M1 to Monterey.  I'm using EyeTV Hybrid. Had to "downgrade" from Diversity, as I am now on optic cable, and I got the info that Diversity won't work with optic cable.

Thank you for taking the time to research this discrepancy on the version number, that is much appreciated. I don't think I'm going to go through the effort of the uninstall with the EyeTV Report App, since it still shows as 8526 when you did that.

I am also in IT, and couldn't agree more with you on your frustrations. But I'm going to hold off on updating to Monterey for the time being. While there are still bugs, I don't have any jittering that others are complaining about. Apple is still supporting Big Sur, so I'm going to wait a while.

Thanks again Stefan!

You're welcome 🙂

I did take the leap now. Everything seems to work just fine. No stuttering, Lipsync seems a bit improved. But I had gone through the hoops of unsintalling with 64-bit Eyetv-Reporter and then restarting the machine before installing the 8527 (heh... 8526 "improved").

I'm on Monterey 12.2.1 using the Geniatech Hybrid + eyetv 4 software and the new imac. It just keeps auto-tuning but can't pick up any channels. Tried installing and reinstalling eyetv 4. Cables and antenna work fine as everything works with older imac and eyetv3. Looking for any suggestions? Are there any settings preventing auto tuning?

Hi Stefan,

I'm trying to help my brother get an EyeTV Hybrid woking with EyeTV 4 on his M1 Mac Mini running on Mac Montery.  Support hasn't been helpful.  Below is the hardware we're using.  Are you using this generation, or one of the newer (EU only) Geniatech versions?

Thanks in advance, Rick

Hi Rick,

It does seem that I have an EU version. See attached picture. I bought mine second hand online. With this one, EyeTV 4 (4.0.0 (8526) - Which is actually (8527) but doesn't say so) works pretty well.

The latest download says 8527 in the download link, but that's the only version that supposedly works with Monterey. The update was very confusing indeed, and had a little odd instructions, which you need to follow.. The explanation I got from EyeTV tech support was, well, kind of out of this world. The most confusing explanation I've heard with my 34 years as an IT professional.

I hope you will find a way to get this to work.

Stefan
