EyeTV 4 with MacOS 15 Sequoia

Update: Today I checked the preferences of EyeTv 4 and disabled the sharing-options (both check-boxes). In the checkbox "Player" I activated "HD transcoding to 720p" (I unsually record movies without this transcoding as they then have full resolution ...). In "Display" I checked "Overscan on" and "Full-size" to "normal", Deinterlace both to "Progressive Scan".

Eye TV now runs for more than 1 ½ hours .... Let's hope, it will stay this way... 🙂

Great find, I have done a simple edit to preferences and changed only, look for shared repositories to false and it now launches without crashing.

The guide:

Look for your EyeTV user preferences.

~/Library/Preferences/com.elgato.eyetv.plist

open in a text editor like BBEdit and look for shared repositories if true change to false save and relaunch EyeTV.

<key>look for shared repositories</key>
    <false/>

Hope that helps, not sure if it will help everyone but it did for me.

I have an M4 pro MacBook Pro running 15.2. I am only interested in the VHS conversion. Does this function work? Also looking at UltraStudio HD Mini (a bit too expensive) or EZCAP that doesn’t require the computer to record. Recommendations?

EyeTV 4.0.0 (8532) works fine and no issues with MacOS 15.2 (24C101) on an Apple Mac Mini M2 Pro with the "EyeTV Hybrid" USB stick (ATSC, not DVB).  I am using a high-performance external Thunderbolt disk for both my EyeTV archive and also other video recordings.

I have had very few issues since upgrading (many years ago) to EyeTV 4.x, but I was careful to delete my old EyeTV 3.x configuration before upgrading to 4.0.0 -AND- I never ever run any ".0" release of MacOS.  The earliest OS release I will consider is a ".01" release.  More usually, I will wait at least for a ".1" release -- for ANY operating system (windows, macos, or other) before upgrading.

I am concerned that GeniaTech has not yet released a "fat binary" with native ARM support.  Maybe they can move the major release from 4.0.0 to 4.1.0 when they do that, although I doubt they will have a fat binary soon.

Note:  I never used FM radio with this stick and I have no way to test that.  I do not have an Intel Mac, so I cannot test that either.

Thanks to the posts here I had the courage to upgrade from MacOS 14 to MacOS 15.3.2 on a Mac Mini 2023 running EyeTV 4.0.0 (8532) and an eyeTV for DTT stick running firmware 102.17.

I got it working but not without a couple of hiccups first.  The signal quality and strength initially showed as really poor (10-20%) and the live TV window was extremely choppy and pixelated.   I tried unplugging and reinserting the DTT stick but no improvement, then a reboot still no improvement.

I then did a simple channel rescan in EyeTV and everything came good, signal quality and strength showing as 100%.

It’s a shame Geniatech has completely lost interest in this product and sorry @ATSC-user EyeTV will probably never make it past v4.0.0.  The software was last updated nearly 5 years ago now.  Even fixing the “Eye TV quit unexpectedly” error on normal quitting would be nice… but I don’t expect it will ever happen.

If and when a future MacOS update breaks EyeTV 4, I reckon that will be the end of the road for EyeTV and the tuner hardware.  Sad.

Yep, beach ball of death, did all the voodoo I knew. Restart cable box, run EyeTV setup assistant, USB unplugs, nothing. I'll check back in a few days to see if anybody has a hack/fix.

Mini M2 Pro, EyeTV HD, Comcast component cable box.  It's been a pretty good run, I will miss EyeTV if this is the end of the line....

This seems to be only partly true. At least with my "EyeTV Sat“ hardware the App always locks up when trying to display HD content (anything with 720p or better), but it still works for SD channels.
