Suggestion: did you spend some time in EyeTV Preferences? Both of the problems you mention are controlled by a Preferences setting. It is possible the Preferences file survived your reinstall of EyeTV. For the ATSC problem, reset your source to the EyeTV Guide from ATSC. For recording start time, you can set EyeTV to start recording a set time before the program start, such as one minute ahead (which is what I do). It sounds like that is what's happening. Qualification: I am still using 7524; since I subscribed to XMLTVListings.com for the EPG, there was no need to update. So some of these things may have been broken in the transition to 7528.

EyeTV 3 Version 7528 was released this morning (US time), announced by e-mail message by Angela Wu. So I started a new thread on this version since other active threads are long. Let's use this thread to report experiences / problems with the new release.

I downloaded it, installed on my non-media center Mac to determine software type. It is 32-bit, so it is obsolete in 2 months when Catalina (Mac OS 10.15) comes out in September or October, since it will no longer support 32-bit applications. Since I have a working version (7524) on my Media Center mac, using XMLTVListings (which is apparently $10/month cheaper than the new TV Guide), I don't see the point in installing the new version and don't plan to.

I noticed that simultaneously the number of recordings in EyeTV Plus in my working version (7524) suddenly dropped from around 50,000 or so to zero yesterday. There is now a signup screen (which I didn't use) for EyeTV Plus, though the "Access Prohibited" message behind it is still in German.

What have been your experiences with version 7528, those who have installed it? I gather it DOES reinstate support for HD HomeRun (I am still using an EyeTV Hybrid).

Doesn't sound like it's an improvement over using build 7524 with either of the other commercial xmltv services (I use XMLTVListings.com). The latter is $19.95 per year and renews automatically. How much is the North American EyeTVPlus guide? Does it renew automatically, or do you have to go through the rigamarole you used to in order to renew TV Guide?

Assuming this beta version lets you use .xmltv format EPG files (built into all versions of EyeTV through 7524, which was the last release version), you could simply subscribe to either of the commercially available services -XMLTVListings.com or SchedulesDirect.com($20/yr and $25/yr respectively). Both work perfectly with EyeTV, and are being used successfully by many contributors to this forum (including me). Instructions on how to install are posted elsewhere on this forum. SchedulesDirect is a bit trickier than XMLTVListings, but once set up and running, you never have to think about either EPG again. Both generate current 14-day schedules, update automatically daily, and look just like the old TV Guide EPG graphically. And have automatic annual renewals, which TV Guide lacked. SchedulesDirect seems to have a little more information according to what's been reported here.

I suspect the problem may be due to the fact that I have an older version of EyeTV installed on this Mac and that program was activated using the code that Geniatech sent me back in January when I renewed my account.  When I try to use that code with my updated software, I get a message that "the renewal code has already been used".

As I say, it doesn't seem to be preventing everything from working - at least for now.  

Like other folks, I'm hoping they make the software 64 bit, but for now it appears I am back in business.

I believe EyeTV Plus is their German EPG - it has been in the software for several years now. It used to be that when you clicked on it, you got a program listing of programs in Germany (in German of course), and there was also a "select your country" menu. But they apparently  realized that bug and now you just get the access not allowed message that you got. However, if you look carefully you will see the number of programs shown in the little button still changes daily, usually in the 50-60,000 range, so it is still live and updated. I suspect this option is part of their grand scheme to have a proprietary EPG in each country where EyeTV is sold. Good luck. PS Any indication of what the source of the EPG is for the beta version you are using? (7527) In North America, I know of only 3 sources . . . XMLTVListings (which is out of Ottawa but covers US too), Schedules Direct, and the now defunct TV Guide service. The first two can be configured to work seamlessly with EyeTV. Does anyone here use any other EPG source with EyeTV?

Good questions all. Based on what I think the likely answer is, I plan to replace my 2010 Mac Mini running as a media center with a new one just before OS 10.15  (which won't run EyeTV) is released. That will give me several years to find an alternative, or maybe just make it a permanent installation never to be updated. After all, EyeTV works perfectly with the XMLTVListings EPG and presumably will continue to do so indefinitely. If you want to have your EyeTV recordings in a non-proprietary format, I've found that EyeTV's export to mp4 option produces recordings indistinguishable (to me) from the original. In other words, my expectations for the future of EyeTV as a product are low, very low.

Holden: I recognize your ingenuity, but that's harder than it has to be. With the external drives running, quit EyeTV, create an alias to the EyeTV Archive folder on that drive and drag it into the EyeTV Archive folder on your boot drive. Then restart EyeTV and all the programs on the external drive will be indexed along with everything on the boot drive in your list of EyeTV recordings, and you can find and play them at will. If you eject the external drive, EyeTV won't be able to find the programs of course, but it will find them the next time you connect the external drive. In theory you can do this for multiple external drives, though I never have, and I'm not sure if the folders on the external drive even have to be named EyeTV Archive (unlike the one on your boot drive, which does).

A final note: there is no requirement that the EyeTV Archive folder has to be inside the Documents folder; it can be anywhere on your boot drive, you just specify the location during EyeTV setup. I find it convenient to have it on my Desktop.

The most recent EyeTV released build is #7424, which I have. They have made a few small improvements, mostly bug fixes, along the way. The new (forthcoming?) beta is build #7427; the link to try it out was posted on one of these forums recently.

Same for me, I had made the user/Library folder visible so long ago I forgot about the default, which is not visible. And yes, it does persist through multiple OS upgrades.

Hmmm - you had me baffled until something jogged my memory: by default many moons ago Apple in its wisdom hid the Library folder(s). Google "show Library folder Mac Mojave" and you'll get several different methods to reveal it (using either View Options or a simple Terminal command). It should stay visible forever after once you do this. Each time I've updated my OS I've inherited this preference, so I had forgotten it is even there. And rest assured the folder IS there; the Mac can't operate without it.

I just checked the file in question, and it is indeed a typo (I omitted the last line when copying and pasting) when I transcribed what I did into a Forum post. Problem: how to inform people who see the February 22nd post. I can find no way of editing or deleting previous posts on this Forum to correct this error. So this is the best I can do . . .

^ I don't know how well known it is (it is not in official EyeTV documentation), but you CAN have multiple EyeTV archives. I have for many years after I tried some stuff which the tech people at Elgato liked, back in the day. I have a 2TB internal drive in my 2010 Mac Mini (to be replaced before the next OS, just in case Geniatech is tardy about a 64-bit version). Nowhere near enough for all the EyeTV HD recordings I have, so I have a 3TB external drive to hold the rest. EyeTV only allows one EyeTVArchive folder, BUT just put an alias to the EyeTVArchive folder on the external hard drive INSIDE the EyeTVArchive folder on your computer's internal hard drive and voila, you can record terrabytes more! The external folder is indexed and accessed by EyeTV just as if the recordings on it were in the main Archive folder that EyeTV looks for.

[Notes You have to manually move EyeTV recording files to the external drive if you want to free up space on the internal one; EyeTV will still place new recordings only on your default internal drive. If you eject the external drive, quit and restart EyeTV so it doesn't get confused looking for files that aren't there; after you restart, it will show the missing files but in an abbreviated greyed out they-are-missing format. When you reconnect the external drive, EyeTV won't be able to find the files either; just quit and restart EyeTV after the external drive shows up on your desktop and the files on the external drive will be reindexed and displayed normally.]

Just a tip for folks, this seemed like a good place to get it out there.

It seems to me someone on one of the EyeTV Forums posted a message they'd received from Angela or someone else at Geniatech that specifically said they no longer support HDHomeRun. The post is within the last 2 months, definitely since the EPG problems started.

^ Well that sucks. I wonder if EyeTV somehow got corrupted. Sounds like trashing it (and associated pref files) is called for, then download a new copy and reinstall. I cannot imagine what scenario would have produced this  result while automating it, sorry. You might want to instead get the one-click menu option installed first (Step 3 in the xmltvlistings EyeTV guide I posted a while back here), before trying automation again.

I did download it, but taking no chances I installed it on an isolated now unused Mac Mini that I replaced several months ago. It is Build 7427 (the current commercial release from about a year ago is 7424). It installed normally, and when opened looks like the real thing, but I didn't want to take the time to fully configure it for my TV channels. Hopefully xmltv is still an option for EPG source. The default EPG source is now EyeTV's own proprietary EPG (like they have had in service in Germany). I suspect that's where the software release holdup is, not in EyeTV itself. Anyway, if you try it, let us know what happens.

^ Ditto what Earl Noe said. I am pretty sure what Holden said about needing a connection to the TV Guide server is not correct (which in this case is lucky). EyeTV does NOT require a TV Guide subscription and never has; it was always sold as an optional (but highly desirable) extra, and as I mentioned in my post a few hours ago on the XMLTVListings thread, you can set the EPG source to "None" at several places within EyeTV. When you do a setup you have to specify a program source and do a channel scan, and only then do you add an EPG. If you subscribed to TV Guide, it was added for you, but if you go to the Channels window you can even add/remove channels manually (and there are many other options as well). A final note: do not use Set-Up Assistant when you go through the multi-step procedure to configure EyeTV to use xmltvlistings or schedulesdirect.
