I've been using EyeTV for at least 12 years (my first tuner was an "EyeTV USB").  At this point, I'm pretty sure Geniatech does not give a shit about EyeTV customers in North America.  It's kinda looking like the end.

At least 10 years here and your probably right. My gut tells me it's not a technical issue but a contract issue between them and TVGuide.

I am interested in how you assess performance. I am using OS 10.9.5 in a mid-2010 mini with 16 GB RAM. Performance seems fine to me, but for smoothest playback I find I need to quit applications.

Well mostly playback performance.. We (my wife and I) have 3 dual HDhomerun tuners and tend to record 4 1080p OTA shows at a time. At the same time we are recording we are usually watching 1 prerecorded show then deleting or sometimes watch from the beginning while a show has already started recording or even live if there is a spare tuner not in use. So 5 streams. And since some of these shows overlap there is up to 6 recording for 5min before and 5 min after a show starts/ends.

I record to a linux server over wired ethernet running unRAID with 9TB of storage using SMB and use a cache drive to record to and at 2 am the files are moved to the protected array.

Playback performance used to stutter a lot until I nailed down the right OS and since it works I just stay there. I did try newer systems but for my system OSX 10.8 seemed to work the best. I still have OSX 10.11 on another partition.

Occasionally there will be a few seconds pause in playback when multiple new shows start recording or end because priority is given to the recording but we are heavy users so I can live with it. I am running a stock 2012 MacMini 2.5ghz i5 with 4gb ram.

    in terminal I type:

cd ./scripts    (note I have a lower case "s" on scripts for the folder name)

./getepg.sh     ( and it runs the procedure - so I need the "./" before the procedure name)

So the odd thing is that: "cd ./scripts" works on my system but "./getepg.sh" returns "No such file or directory"

"cd ~/scripts" also works since ~ is short for home directory

Of course I am running 10.8.5. I tried moving up but this OS give me the best overall performance with EyeTV.

I do the ls and it shows the getepg.sh file. I then type getepg.sh and it says "getepg.sh: Command not found". I redid the chmod command still Command not found when I run the .sh.

    Sorry, try this:

    sh /path/to/file/file name

or instead of typing path just type:

    sh(space)

then drag the file to the terminal window (saves all the typing)

I took the Scripts folder and dragged it into the script so I don't know how it can't exist. I also did the exact same thing in Terminal and it worked.

Do you know of a way to run the .sh script in something like Terminal and debug it?

You can run it from terminal.

cd /to folder the script is in

ls (will list the contents of that folder)

    nameofscript.sh (will run it)

The second way was to just make a textedit file and change the .rtf extension to .plist.

So did you try to make the Text Edit file "Plain Text" before changing the extension?

RTF (Rich Text File) has embedded characters for formatting.

Total non-programmer user here and the solution that seems to have evolved after lots of diligent and thoughtful work seems daunting to me. Has anyone figured out how to modify the EyeTV software to make TitanTV work which I used successfully in the pre-TVGuide EyeTV era as brief as it was? TitanTV is no longer a selectable *source* in the EyeTV software's Guide "Service" Pull-down window....

The best you can do is set all your channels to ATSC and you will get a very basic schedule in the guide. You can click on a show to record same as before but you will get very little info.

Along with that you can use TitanTV to see more info or schedule a recording. The best way to schedule is to click on the show with the browser on the same computer as EyeTV, click the big red button in the dialog when it pops up. The scheduled recording will download to EyeTV and show up in schedules. The remote record button, small red one with a remote icon will work from another computer but I have had unreliable results with that, dropping scheduled shows.

You also need to go into EyeTV prefs > Guide and at the bottom put in Your Titan ID and PW.

For those of you who don't want to mess with the xmltv guide process, and do get OTA schedules that populate when you watch the channel, you can make a dummy 1 minute recording for each channel you record from each day, when the tuner tunes to the channel to make the recording it populates the schedule data.  I ran into issues if I used the menu process to get guide data for OTA schedules, it would pick one channel and populate its guide info to all the others.  But letting each channel populate on its own worked for me.

Each primary station may have a different time frame they load the schedule for, one of mine only does about 12hrs, another does about 48hrs.

I made those 1 minute schedules repeat daily, and only keep 1 recording (so it doesn't fill up the recording list) (though the 12 hour station I have a morning and night schedule)

It doesn't help with the new/repeat information about a show, and some of ours are also in reruns, so I had to update the regular recording schedule with specific channel and time ranges.

I am glad that my guide wasn't due for renewal until next month.  I'm sorry for those who had just renewed before this guide snafu started.

I found all I have to do is use the + key to move to next channel and it will populate those selected channels for 3 to 22 hours depending on the channel, no recording needed but still a PIA if you shut EyeTV down each day as I do.

I got Calendar to do the job. Hardly intuitive (and not much like the instructions I found around the Web for iCal), but got it going fine. If someone needs help, post here, and I'll tutor it.

I tried that once maybe twice, .... Then I switched to LaunchD which very easy and intuitive.

You shouldn't be concerned about sleeping your macmini, except, of course, not doing it absent mindedly when EyeTV is actually recording. EyeTV has worked flawlessly for me in waking up to record scheduled programs. It doesn't wake the display when it does this.

If my MacMini goes to sleep, sometimes that happens while holding a button too long on the Apple Remote, when it gets woken up the Apple Remote (actually EyeTV) is all goofed up...

The volume does not work properly and scrolling thru recording will produce a clicking sound and the volume will go up and down. The only way to fix it is to restart EyeTV.

For those of us with big EyeTV libraries (like me, 500+ programs) the only option I see is to keep my 2010 Mac Mini when I replace it this summer (with a 2018 model) as a dedicated EyeTV server. Clunky solution, but I'd hate to throw out all those programs I recorded (many are edited).

Why not export them in another format. I have almost 2000 some going back 9 years. A lot of "This Old House" but many others as well. it could take awhile.

Step 3: on the "SD-DD Subscribed Lineups: Add a new lineup   Report Lineup Problems  " line click "Add a new lineup" and select the appropriate channel service you need. I have an HD Antenna which picks up 54 stations in the St. Louis area.

I get my TV OTA as well and I have a question:

I receive 55 channels at the moment from 2 markets, Providence and Boston, some are duplicate networks such as CBS boston - channel 4 and CBS providence- Channel 12 but the sub channels may not be the same. Some are unique to each market. So my question is, is it possible to set that up in schedulesdirect?

    THIS IS OFF-TOPIC

But I will ask anyway, while I'm thinking of it. Has anyone written an Apple script that warns if you try to sleep the computer while EyeTV is recording? That is my principal cause of recording failures.

I never let mine sleep it causes too many issues, only the screen goes black if it goes more than 15 minutes without movement. My Mac Mini draws so little its just not worth it.

  14. Well, so much for TitanTV, sort of.

Seems that it in remote scheduling mode it tends to skip or lose shows and once you schedule a show it will not let you do it again.

I tried deleting from EyeTV schedules the shows I programed then went back to TitanTV and could not reschedule a show again even though it makes you think it did.

It does work ok when doing a direct download from browser to the same computer EyeTV is running on but that means sitting in front of the TV to do it.

    Not exactly wife friendly.

  15. So I set up TitanTV last night to record my wife's favorite TV Shows and except for the fact it does not show what has been selected and conflicts it does work ok.

I have 3 HDHomerun dual tuners, 1 newer and 2 older, I got the third just to handle overlaps so I could record 4 channels at a time and not have recordings get cut of when another starts recording before the others are finished. I just have to keep track of how many channels are recording at a time in my head now with TitanTV.

Using a browser from another computer, laptop or iPad makes it a bit more complicated, for my wife, but has the advantage of being able to program the shows when the MacMini and EyeTV are not running, I have it power down at 2am every day and start it around 4pm each day.

I've looked at Plex and Kodi a number of times but the biggest issue with them is they do not group recordings by show in sub menus and to find a show you have to scroll through, in my case thousands of shows, which is a HUGH PIA.

  16. Same here, I noticed over a week ago that it wasn't updating so that means it hasn't updated in 2 weeks since the updates are for 2 weeks in advance.

The only short term fix is to manually scroll, using the + on the keyboard, through the channels everyday. Out of 55 channels I only left the handful we normally record to save the pain.

  17. Do you have only 1 HDHomeRun? If not, does the other one work ok.

Is it just playback or is it the recording that is not good?

One thing I had an issue with was the Power Supplies for the HDHomeRuns. They get noisy and cause the recordings to be choppy.

What are you recording to?  I record to a NAS, UnRaid of up to 4 1080 streams at once and often play a 5th...

I started having playback issues, not sure if it was changing to a different file system on a new drive I installed but I then started recording to a Cache drive instead of Directly to the Array drives and the problem was solved. Seems that I was taxing the array drives, it would record and play fine with 2 streams but not 4. So by recording to the Cache I could play previous recordings off the array without issue.

I also found Mountain Lion plays better then El Capitain, so I'm sticking with ML as long as I can. I haven't tried El Capitain since I changed to recording to the Cache Drive.. No need to at the moment.

Maybe you'll find something useful in the above.

  18. Well it's going on 2 months in another week or so and I still not heard from "tech support", though they did get back quick when I had an issue with my TVGuide renewal key.

Anyway I found a solution and I'm putting it here in case someone else runs into this.

It turns out that I/you can not make a new Smart Playlist if there is video in the background playing, which there normally is a live TV window open.

The solution was to close the window...

Simple but a big PIA to figure out and a big time waster.

  19. I've been running EyeTV since 2009 on 10.6.x along with Front Row with the EyeTV plugin on a MacMini 2009 w/8gigs ram connected to UnRaid NAS for recording OTA TV.
I recently had to update to EyeTV 3.6.9 to get TVGuide to work and since then It crashes just about every night. I tried upgrading to 10.8.x and had issues with playback and very frequent stutters. I lost Front Row with the OS upgrade and the nice hierarchical listing of TV Shows. I tried using Smart Playlist in EyeTV, not as nice because I have to make 180 + lists manually.

So my problem is I can enter a name for the playlist but then the window collapses to a narrow bar before I can enter anything else and the only way to see it is to switch to finder but then can't enter anything in the window without it collapsing again, so it is sort of useless.
I tried OS 10.9, 10.10 and now running 10.11, which plays flawlessly but still the problem exist with the Smart Playlist. I also tried this on a 2012 Mac Mini with the same results. So I tried a fresh install of 10.11 on the 2012 and the only way I can get the smart play list to work is to record to the local drive but I can't use that for 1600 + TV Shows and scrolling through that many shows is a PIA without Smart Playlist. I tried uninstalling and a fresh install of EyeTV and Prefs as well.
Has anyone run into this and how was it solved, if it was solved?
