@great_vc In this version of EyeTV 4 remote control don't supported. In next release there is some possibility to work like in EyeTV 3.

Personally when i move to new M1 mac mini, i gave the aluminum remote control as a gift (βλακεία μου) to a new owner of my old intel imac.

@stelios1914 yeah, and that is one of the reasons i will not upgrade from Mojave. Its not that v4 is steady and have no bugs (😅) but not having a remote in TV is completely pointless.

    σε ευχαριστώ!

The old metallic IR remote doesn't work with newer Mac Minis, including the M1 version. They don't have an IR receiver. Apparently you can use an Apple TV remote to control them, but I have no idea if they would work with Eye TV.

i do not have the new one, i have the original late-2015. which works with eyetv3 , my question is if it works with eyetv4 as i have conflicting response on that. and you can image that TV  viewing without a remote is not usable.

I found out (upgrade to M1 and eye tv 4 today...) that you can quick change the channel by clicking the channels logo bottom left corner, a menu with all channels pops up.

hint: you cannot close it with ESC, you need to click in the icon again and the menu disappears.

well hidden feature and I wonder why some UI-elements moved across the screen from down to up and so on...

i will ask this again as i will never upgrade due to the fiasco of EYETV, do yo have a the macmini remote ? does it work ?

    I mean the metallic remote

Hi, I used the latest eyetv 3.x for many years on my Mac mini 2010 with an eyeTV hybrid with an antenna for USA TV recording. The online TV guide stopped working a few years ago and I never got it to work again and just used manual recordings a few times.

After looking for other options, I decided to try again and installed EyeTV 4 yesterday on my M1 mini. I thought the TV guide for one year came with EyeTV 4, but it didn't seem to so I had to purchase guide for North America separately. Setting up the TV guide was a real pain and I got error messages and the link they sent me for activation didn't work. Finally the TV guide is showing up. I can watch live TV. I scheduled a few shows for recording and that worked.

I'm running: Mac mini 2020 with M1 ARM processor, 16GB, Big Sur Version 11.1, System firmware version 6723.61.3, EyeTV 4 (8524), Premium EPG North America,. Elgato Eye TV Hybrid USB tuner (North America 2010) connected to a digital antenna (ATSC). During the app installation I got a popup that Rosetta2 was required and I installed that.

For the few who have mentioned it, apparently you can't run EyeTV 3 through Parallels Desktop.  I've tried, and others, without success.

The app requires 2d/3D acceleration to work and Parallels does not have access to the APIs to have this.

    https://forum.parallels.com/threads/eyetv-3-on-mohave-10-14-6-under-pdt.348897/#post-870989

thank you for the clarification, i needed that !

I read the thread people are talking about VM with windows 10 and alternative software NextPVR which i do not like and i'm in Greece so no HDHOMERUN.

Before EyeTV i was super happy with my win 7 media center application for TV. Do you think that the eyetv3 dual tuner will work with that in a VM with parallels ?

    Thanks for testing this out.

Can you report these issues to Apple? I'm not convinced we can rely on GeniaTech to do so.

Apple should bear some responsibility here. Existing software should not break from one release to the next – year after year – without some seriously good excuse. On x86 EyeTV should "just work" on Big Sur.

Don't expect apple to get involved on a single software that it is not working. Maybe if Microsoft Word was not working they get involved but not with some piece of code poorly written by a company that we do not know if the exist anymore

The thing that concerns me is the negative feedback that GeniaTech has gotten on this app. I have been reading comments from users saying don't expect this company to offer any updates for this app with Big Sur. I don't know what to believe.

just give up. I have done it. Im still in Mojave and since apple gives security updates for two releases back i will stay here. I'm not using my MacMini , its from TV and KODI only.

I have asked for alternatives here but nothing has come up, i'm still waiting for someone to point me on how to work with the Parallers software. Have no problem pay

There are a few people who are quite negative about it because they expected to get free updates for life, but myself I have been moderately pleased with it.

Certainly isn't a polished product with a few issues (hopefully more updates coming) but it is stable. Don't think it has crashed on my in the last 6 months.

perfect example of "how to disorient people from the actual problem"

Well, first of all the negativity is NOT from the fact that you have to pay for the upgrade. i will pay double the amount of money asked for that product with no issue.

Also noone is speaking about crashes. It does not crash (ok it crash but not that often)

    WE

are all complaining about the fact that it just doesn't deliver as v3. I will not go into the hundreds of problems within the software (again no crashing if the image is just a black screen on full screen TV) or the fact that the remote control, the apple remote the remote on a TV program application on your TV, the remote(!) is not working (again see no crashes on the app). or more and more and more.

So go back and try to fix something (do not know if the company is still valid)

Dusting off my old EyeTV Hybrid and looking for software. It appears 3.x no longer works on Catalina. Is 4.0 stable enough on Catalina to buy?

    hahahah welcome to hell

    the answer is simple

DO NOT EVEN TRY TO BEGIN TO THINK TO PURCHASE IT

  9. Does ti matter ? Is this company even alive ?

do they do their job ? do you expect anything from them now ?

Is there an ACTUAL  ALTERNATIVE for eyetv that works or only via virtualbox, someone says something about another software that can run windows software or MACOs without installing an actual image. . I actually have give up , i want to upgrade to Catallina but i can't

But EyeTV 4 is not fit for purpose. As I've said before spend your money on Parallels and run EyeTV 3 under an earlier OS. It works a treat. Stable, full functionality, no video stuttering.

Can you please expand on this ?

So, i install Catallina, and then buy parallers and  need to create a VM with old MacOS ? where do i find the boot ? or i just select from Parallels run on previous OS ?

How many GB are used ? does it install the OLD MacOS so you have another 50GB on your HDD in use ?

That claim (on the website) should now be corrected as it is inaccurate. Anyone purchasing the software in the last two months and then discovering it didn't work with Catalina would be entitled to claim a refund because of incorrect advertising.

Do you seriously don't understand how wrong this statement is ? So the false advertising which is punishable by law BTW is apply to people only buying the product in the last two months, again, seriously ? Boy, you have some weird thoughts!

So you need more than that ?

Do you have stock options in the company ?

So please help this dim person to understand which part is "completely false"? Perhaps you could save some time when composing your next reply and just using the standard "witch hunt" / "fake news" defence. That seems to be a favoured tactic amongst those of certain education levels.🤦‍♀️

Let me understand this. If you were to buy a petrol powered car, and 5 years later petrol runs out because everyone moves to electric power, you would expect the car manufacturer to convert your car to battery as part of their customer service? 🤔

    Your analogy is completely false

It always amazes me how people imagine they are entitled to all sorts of things. Especially with computer technology.

Geniatech have a product which does what it advertises to do with the systems which were out at the time it was released. When people decide they would like to move to a newer technology, why do they imagine the companies which supplied them with a product are now obliged to put in lots of effort just to supply another product – and probably with the expectation of it being free.

Granted, it would be nice to receive regular status updates so we know how to plan. But don't make the mistake of confusing courtesy with obligation. And if Geniatech have run in to unforeseen difficulties releasing a product to meet your expected schedule, better they miss the scheduled release than provide a product you will only complain about as being released before it was ready. Note that because of this issue, companies are often unwilling to make any statement to when things will be ready. And then those inclined to moan about everything will moan the lack of communication.

Be grateful that you can expect the release of some updated software which is most probably going to generate minimal extra income for Geniatech from the existing customer base. If you don't like that, switch to a competing product and see if they can do better. Just please stop moaning like a spoilt child who didn't receive a better present than the other kid.

And no, this isn't directed at one specific poster. Rather at the whole group of people who imagine life should be more convenient for themselves.

Actually no, you are completely wrong.

Yes, of course i;'m entitled to things, especially if i have paid a large money on this. It is not opensource not in github not a pirate software so yes i have requests and demands that a company IF it values their customers will have to comply otherwise it is dead on the market. Now it has a sort o monopoly on this that's why we do not have any other option with the same benefits.

They SHOULD release a statement, they SHOULD help customers which are paid customers btw and more and more. They want to release the 64bit and charge it another 100$ that is fine, i will pay for it , which at least it will be a progress and noone can complain. Don't buy it, but it will be there.

    Also this

    Quote

"Geniatech have a product which does what it advertises to do with the systems which were out at the time it was released. When people decide they would like to move to a newer technology,"

is completely wrong. Let's see the home page of eyetv software:

Do i need to say more ? do you see anywhere even now, even with all this that says no Catallina support ? why not put it there ? maybe because they will loose customers ? is this false advertisement ? of course yes !

And in addition to that, with high sierra there was the issue with the apple remote that the up /down button did not work in eyetv and almost all other software in mac. Of course i contacted the support and told me "not our fault, apple changed something" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can find the thread somewhere here, even after i pointed AGAIN that on their site they say "support apple remote" , they do not say "support apple remote " * Non in high sierra. Even on an asterisk, small down down on the page.

    So yes, i demand stuff.
