As the Program Guide has not worked since at least August 2022 and many users have reported the issue to Geniatech and it remains unresolved with no apparent communication to users, would this approach from 2019 work with current versions of EyetV whether version 3 or version 4?  Like a lot of users I am using  MacOS 10.15.7 and have not updated to 11.x, 12.x or 13.x of the Mac OS.  I really hope Geniatech updates eyetv or opens it up to other epg sources.  I would like to renew my geniatech epg subscription soon as it will expire this spring but I do not have much confidence and I feel like i would be throwing money away if buy a new subscription when it has not worked for over half a year.  Any thoughts?

I have used the other  EPG provider Schedules Direct for years, and it still works great. There are many posts about how to use it, I put some consolidated instructions on other parts of this blog, too. Wisconsin Eric's may be easier, but I had already set Schedules Direct up for the previous outage and went back to it again after the current outage. It works on my older mac mini running Mojave and EyeTV 3. I haven't been able to get it working on my Mac Studio running EyeTV 4. Maybe the XMLTV setup would work on Ventura, I haven't tried that. Good Luck!

  2. Here is the list of compatible products for EyeTV 4:

  3. There is a misconception that Geniatech is some small company that only makes Eyetv hardware and software. Eyetv is a small and obviously ignored part of a large company that, according to their site: Geniatech is a a global ODM/OEM manufacturer for digital TV and smart IoT devices, we focuses on providing one-stop solution of multimedia and wireless technologies with hardware and software designs based on all operating systems.
Our products include OTT/IPTV Android TV box, industrial mini PC, commercial tablet, E-Ink display, IoT gateway and sensor box, ARM development board, video capture card, tv tuner, content management system, device management system and hotel TV systems.

Does the updated guide include program descriptions? They've been missing ever since the EPG snafu a couple of years ago...

There is no updated guide. The guide is the same as it has been for the last 2 years. No "program descriptions" other than title and stars. The only update is to the eyetv 4 software so it actually finds the server to download the same program guide.

  5. I was one of the original people that used SchedulesDirect and helped with the guide, but since it quit I have used the Geniatech TV Guide, now that it is back. It works fine. You will have to update to the latest EyeTV 3 to use it. A lot easier than the setups we devised when TV Guide was not working. You can get it from the guide preferences in EyeTV 3, and by the way, it works in EyeTV 4, too.

EyeTV Version 3.6.9 (7528) is now available for download on the support page for EyeTV 3.  It contains EyeTV EPG Premium - USA and no longer uses TV guide.  Was able to successfully install and populate the program guide.  My service subscription however was not extended It still is active only until the original expiration.

It also appears that you can buy a renewal for EyeTV EPG Premium-USA in the store. Anyone try it yet? https://www.geniatech.eu/product/tv-guide/

I use an EyeTV HD and have a IR blaster going from it to the DirecTV cable box to change channels. There was a time when it was 100% reliable but now at least once or twice a weeks it fails to enter all three channel numbers- (usually missing the first one or two) and I get a nice recording of something I don't want. The IR blaster is taped to the front of the box where the IR sensor is and is out of direct light.

I know there's a way to adjust the timing of the signals in the Setup Assistant, I just don't know what parameters to adjust. It seems lately that generally, it takes longer to change channels for some reason.

MacOS 10.10.5, EyeTV 3.6.9 (7416) Anybody else have this issue and solved it? Thanks.

I use a couple EyeTV HD's and I have had that problem for years. Mine will sometimes only complete the first 2 of three numbers in the channel number. I have tried changing the timing of the of the numbers in setup, tried resetting up, tried all manner of things with the ir blasters, even bought other EyeTV HD's from eBay. It still fails sometimes, randomly. One thing I do is set the channel in advance for recording, then if it fails it is on the correct channel. Only thing that helps is to reboot the HD box, but that is of course, temporary. I run EyeTV 3.6.9 (7420).

EYEMISSELGATO...Do you (or anyone else) have an "experimental" EyeTV setup where you can try things out without risking your utility system?  If so, could you try the following in a terminal window on a version of EyeTV beyond where HDHR has been disabled:

Sorry, don't have a setup like that to use to try it. Makes sense to me that they just hid the preference, though, and maybe it can be found. There was an email someone posted from 'Angela implying they were looking into the HDHomerun situation, and whether to offer refunds or perhaps do an update just for HDHomerun users:

    "Thank you for contacting us.

For now, the restoration work is at the testing stage. We will take some actions to support Hdhomerun users or compensate in other ways and will let you know that when it is finished testing.

    Kind regards,

    Angela

I am tempted to try the beta software (I still have my EyeTV account).  Before I try however, does anyone know if this software will work with an HDHomeRun box (like other folks with this hardware, I'm running the old 3.6.9 (7520) software).

    Thanks,

    George

PS: I'm currently using XMLTV - it works great, although there are a few local channels it does not get, so I have to resort to ATSC for those...

Others have said it will not work with HDHomerun. Sorry.

How do you like the new mini? I think I read somewhere that they no longer allow the user to install more RAM. It was pretty easy on my old mid-2010.

The new mini is great. Very fast, even though it is just the I3 chip. The RAM is actually upgradable on the new mini, so I just went with 8 and will upgrade someday. It is quite an ordeal to update the memory on the new mini, a total dis-assembly is required. But I have done it before on my previous minis with good results. The hard drive is no longer upgradable, so I went with a 1 TB drive. Apple way overcharges for storage, but it is now or never with the storage capacity on the new mini.

While working on my second Mini EyeTV revival, I will also have a new system to play with. Fed-Ex just brought me a new Mini which has Mojave installed with the new APFS file system, so I'll get to try installing EyeTV from scratch on a new 64 bit Mac and see what happens. I'll report back....:-)

My setup works perfectly on my new Mac Mini 2018 with Mojave as well as a Mac Mini 2014 running High Sierra and a 2011 running High Sierra. I transferred all my files for all apps and documents the 2014 to the 2018, didn't install eyetv from scratch.

I do have a second Mini that is "no-channels-bricked" like the first, so I will revive it with a back-up restore. On that one I am going to try EYEMISSELGATO's "schedules direct" helper files and see if I can succeed there and then choose xmltv or schedules direct for the successor to TV Guide based on which one meets my needs. But since the "schedules direct" implementation seems much more daunting for non-programmers like me, I'm not convinced I can make that work. If not at least I'll have a workable xmltv solution to set up on all of my Minis. All of this thanks to the many knowledgeable and helpful contributors to this Forum!

You could try exporting the channel list from your first, working mac mini and then import the channel list to the second "bricked" mini. Go to "Channels" on the left column in the eyetv software on the working first mini, then the "service" dropdown on the right bottom, scroll down to the "edit" selection near the bottom. Then you can select your working channels selection (if you never saved the working set, you should do that first.) Select "export," and export the channel set. Get it over to your other mac mini, and repeat the process in that Eyetv software, "importing" the channel set. You shouldn't need to restore the entire computer, just import the channel set. This set should work no matter if you use xmltv or schedules direct in the future for this machine.
