  1. Hi all. Today I fired up EyeTV 3 to be greeted with a window saying there is an update to EyeTV 3.6.9 (7530). It has "General improvements in performance and stability". I automatically hit 'Install Update' without thinking. It then struck me that this is old, old software and Geniatech can hardly push out EyeTV 4 let alone work on an old version. I cancelled the download and checked the download page on the Geniatech and the latest version to download is still 7.6.9 (7528). This made me very suspicious. After the big story of machines being hacked by a malicious update to an app via its official update process, and considering Geniatech is not managing this forum to remove spam, I am thinking this update just may be a hacked version and an attempt to infect people's Macs. What do you think?
  2. Thanks for replying Einar. I regularly record programs then send them to itunes to watch. I also record from my Sky HD box via a HDMI Multiplexor. I have set my own channel and can record any clips I want to keep then export them to video files. EyeTV is also great for setting up Smart Guides. I can, almost, what do I need in Plex and NextPVR but neither are as easy to do what I can do withEyeTV. For example in EyeTV I can set up a Smart Guide so I can record QI, Season 20, BBC2 HD, New Show. Neither alternative program has this functionality. I know at release EyeTV 4 was awful but I was hoping it had improved enough to be usable even if Geniatech are not interested in keeping it going long term.
  3. I'm currently running V3.6.9 on Mojave but want to upgrade to Big Sur. The only thing stopping me is EyeTV 3 doesn't work on Big Sur. After hearing of the mess that EyeTV 4 was at launch is the current release any better? Does it work well enough to justify an upgrade? I have tested out OTA TV on Plex and NextPVR and although they work well they haven't got all the features that EyeTV has.I don't want to spend £40 on EyeTV 4, plus a subscription to Gracenote, just to find it's just as terrible as I have heard.
  4. I feel this software is now abandoned. It could be covid has put them very far behind schedule but the signs are, very, clear to me that EyeTV is just here to make money off of existing hardware/software. If Geniatech wanted to keep EyeTV going they wouldn't have taken so long to release a functional version of 64-bit EyeTV or release an "upgrade" that is so inferior to the previous version. The fact that since its release last February there hasn't even been a .0.1 update to fix the worst bugs is truly telling. When was the last update to the Windows software? Is that in need of bug fixes? If it is and that has not been updated in a long time then, I feel, it's time to move on from EyeTV. As far as I can see they are no longer supporting these forums too. Look at how many spam posts there are that have not been cleaned up and there seems no attempt to improve security to prevent posting of spam.
  5. EricL, seeing as the software is not fit for purpose at the moment I would claim a refund before 14 days from the date of purchase. If they do not respond then claim the money back from your card provider. I tried to purchase, thought 'Can't be as bad as everyone is saying, surely'. Something went wrong and the payment didn't go through. contacted support and the cancelled the transaction so I'm going to wait till they fix the app. I would like to upgrade to Catalina but I need a working copy of EyeTV so I have to wait.
