  1. By the looks of most of the comments here - most of you aren't of the familiar with these idiot's first huge outage? It sounds like some of you may? It's been well over three years ago (maybe 5?) Certainly well before the pandemic, which by the way... didn't that start in China, too!??!? I'm afraid to tell you all - but when this happened back then - it went on for SEVERAL months if not a year. Back then we all kept getting the same misleading (lying) info, excuses, offers to extended service, no service, refunds, etc. EVERYTHING BUT the actual service we initially paid for. I tried setting us up with auto methods to get the EPG data back then, but I ended up just creating our own program schedule within EyeTV program itself. No trick or hack. Basically create the title of the show you want to record, with time and date. Just like the old days. Bad part was... if the show happened to not play that night, a rerun aired, replaced by something else - you didn't get your show - just whatever preempted it. Sounds like these guys are back to all the same shenanigans!! Short of it -- like last time, these Chinese owners will NOT honor any kind of subscription, or deal you may have had. They didn't years ago, and they won't now. They will however, like last time, string you along for MONTHS! They do NOT update the software. It's never been theirs, and they just rehash it all but changing menu button fields, etc., but never change anything, but actually... making it worse!!! If you look at the software from 15 years ago, and now -- it's EXACTLY the same!! Unfortunately, they really have ruined EyeTV products and software. We have 3 - 4 different devices, but really hate it all now. I initially came to the site today because I was just going to bite the bullet and purchase TV Guide, but I see that's all a fantasy again. I guess I'll be going to back to our auto/manual method. Oh well... at least I save myself the a headache and loss of more money. BT THE WAY... did anyone know that the actor who played "Peter Brady" from the Brady Family, Michael Knight was an initial owner/founder/backer of EyeTV hardware? I met him LONG ago at a Macintosh hardware event showing EyeTV equipment. A bit surreal and bizarre. LOL ANYWAY.... best of luck to all. Don't hold your breath too long before moving on.
  2. I came back to forum for a different conversation. As to this post -- I misspoke earlier out of frustration. "Done"... meaning more with... the software, or as in the EPG, and... well truthfully - this forum topic. Because it seems there was no actual reply to the actual topic - I can't quite help to believe it was just done with a level of sarcastic spite or malice. You're backhanded type of poking, response is really - why I don't like joining forums. But sure, ok - I'll take the patronizing "welcome back." Thanks - @EYEMISSELGATO NOW... Ive made certain I've turned off notifications.
  3. We have two macs strictly for media running EyeTV, but NEVER said I was abandoning EyeTv software, the app. Just their crummy servicing of TV Guide, which they're obviously doing while robbing customer's of their subscription fee, which by the way - I demanded full refund and successfully received it by going through PayPal. I just dropped back to this post to see if anything new had happened, and see nothing has, confirmed by my quick check to download TV Guide EPG. And the notorious quotes are still being given by what seems to be the only support agent, Angela, who ever replies to the issue. I see again she's saying - it's almost done. WHATEVER! They've been saying the same thing for almost 1 & ½ months now. I use to get told - we'll let you know in a couple days. Then they'd say - the problem will be corrected at the end of the week. WHATEVER They've shown no effort, no good actions with the situation, nor given any reason to believe they're fixing the issue, or even working on the issue. There is absolutely NO way this kind of issue would take 2 months to correct. I'd only suggest - people demand and get a full refund.
  4. By the way - regarding the last screen shots I posted. They're from Geniatech.us. There are different pictures (of course) for Geniatech.eu But they're now showing a difference for TV Guide as a free 4 week trial. But if you try to buy the EPG subscription they still show it as out of stock. Hmm... available with their premium service, but still not yet as a subscription purchase?? At least not in the U.S. At any rate... I am OUT OF HERE for good. They've pulled the cork, so I'm getting out before the ship completely goes down. Off to find another hardware/software service. CIAO
  5. Lets just say I've gone beyond the ½ century mark, but I've also been heavily involved with computers for the last 35+ years. When referring to simple/advanced functions - meaning the advance features of eyeTV are easy to use.
  6. Yes... two posts... somewhere within now... 12 pages?
  7. Ahh... but communication is a two way street.
  8. *** NOW.... BAIT AND SWITCH?!? *** I was filing complaint with the FTC and had to get Geniatech's address and noticed this when I went to their page. Seem they're trying to do a little bait and switch tactics! That's the only conclusion I can come to. See the screen shot!! This wasn't there before! It said "out of stock" and the TV guide logo was gone. Seems they want you to pay $80 bucks and THEN give you TV Guide free? I'm in the U.S. - we can't get ANY of their premium content (I believe) it's only in Europe.
  9. [here I go... another post. sorry again] thx MissElgato - encouraging words. It's not that I lack the technical know-how to make the changes - just the time, and lack of desire to make change to a method we've used for around 13 years on two EyeTV devices. Anyway... it's encouraging. Thanks! QUESTION: of the EPG services mentioned (not that it matters because we already pay for TV Guide) but all the services are fee based? I thought I've seen it mentioned. If so - how much?
  10. I guess I'd partially have to disagree. From what I gather just from what you've said and what Millstadt said, which seems to be that schedulesdirect.org and xmltv both supply EPG. That's simply picking out where/what your own region/area/country - you need your EPG data from. Specific EPG is determined by your location, which goes directly hand in hand with your provider (air, cable, satellite) That just means - where you're at. So then - - we're then strictly talking about how to use the tv schedule/program data (EPG) or the implementation of EPG. That doesn't change. It seems to me - the only differentiating factor - is a person's location, and what you use, which are both steps within EyeTV software anyway. The steps needed are - how to make alternative EPG data sources to communicate with your EyeTV software/hardware. It'd just be simpler if Geniatech would open EyeTV software to more sources, or at least one that reads, "other" - under "Guide" in EyeTV preferences. They need to get their residual revenue from somewhere, I guess? (APOLOGIES) wasn't my intention to seemingly hijack the topic.
  11. Danny - Are you just referring to how EyeTV as an application communicates with the data, the data communication, and how it's handled? I'm reading your post and trying to visualize how we've used Smart Guides. Is this what you're referring to? Create a Smart Guide - those reside as it's own list under the four main categories (Recordings, Schedules, Channels, Program Guide) TV Guide EPG data has always shown up in the Program Guide area, where TV Guide Diagnostics reside as well. (also update EPG here, too) Smart Guides won't even bother working without EPG (of course) Otherwise, a program selected (as seen in pic) would show a red dot along with name, and program info. Schedules: Yes, after a smart guide has been created - the tv program's schedule appear here. You can also manually create a schedule(s). What's seen in in the "Schedules" screen shot /page are manual recordings I created since there's no EPG for Smart Guides to do it for me. I might refer to a smart guides as - "contingency features" - more advanced recording requirements a user determines. When creating a manual schedule, about the only extra feature you can add (as seen) is to "Repeat" - then after that - options like... daily, weekly, monthly... are available. SMART GUIDE PAGE: SCHEDULES PAGE: CREATE SMART GUIDE PROCEDURE:
  12. Believe me... I've been using EyeTV for around 13 years. I know how it and EPG functions. I'm trying to clarify what you said before, and exactly what you're trying to correct me on now? You Said: As I said in my last post, "Smart Guides" works the same with EPG TV Guides that you can get from schedules direct.org and xmltvlistings.com as it did with geniatech's EPG TV Guide. Ahh... it wasn't clear before. You were saying schedulesdirect.org and/or xmltvlistings.com can be used for EPG as TV Guide EPG. I thought you were saying you needed "schedule's" service "AND" xmltv's service. It should have read -- "or" --- instead of "and." Nasty thing.... semantics. 😉
  13. (When I have time) I will have to see for myself to consider this option, but frankly - I don't see how it could be more user friendly as it requires going out of EyeTV. Again... I know ... I'll have to see it. But once you've created a Smart Guide within EyeTV there's absolutely no programming necessary for as long (years if so) as you're recording a program. Smart Guides also have functions that can take into account many possible unforeseen issues that may arise during a broadcast season. Call me lazy... but it's why I purchased EyeTV; 14 day EPG program data, automatic on /off of our Mac, brainless recording, review, export without commercials, and some functions we've yet to use. And it sounds as though there's at least one fee, if not more that will be required. I'll still need to look at the options posed here, but again.. lack of time to do all the sorting of services mentioned here is why we got an EyeTV device and software. Maybe a hard box DVR /streaming type of device and service is in our near future instead?
  14. So... am I correct to assume - - it then would take TWO different services to produce what was done once in EyeTV software? Requiring Direct.org ... AND... xmltvlistings? Right? With EyeTV there are a variety of features/function as well as 26 different variables in the scroll over menu you can activate, not to mention after creating a smart guide, you can have interact with smart play lists, which then . Direct.org works the same for you in these aspects of EyeTV? BTW - were you referring to "schedulesdirect.org" not "direct.org"?
  15. Well... even the title is somehow related to essentially creating your own EPG, and if you're the original post'r - even more reason to create a more concise and comprehensive "how to" on creating your own EPG feed. You can ask others to do that as you did, but in doing so you also invite being misquoted, and having misinformation entered as well. And it may not be impossible to extrapolate directions, but like some feel they'll spend $100 bucks to get back $20 (still don't know how that is) most likely I won't bother going through 10 - 15 pages to sort out scattered ideas and directions to piece back together.
  16. Do you guys know something I don't regarding TV Guide EPG? Other than it currently not working? Granted... there's been no explanation provided, official, rumored, or otherwise - other than Geniatech support claiming it's' being worked on. Don't get me wrong - I'm all about having a working "solution" but I also don't want what might constitute as a "work around" only to sacrifice more specialized features and functions we're able to use now, such as "smart guides." Which if anyone hasn't' used them - I don't know how you've functioned using EyeTV without it's simple, yet advanced functions. (ie - not recording a program if it's a repeat) It allows, in comparison to do what you do with IFTT (if this then that) right from within EyeTV in conjunction with TV Guide EPG
  17. Well... I'm not sure what investment you'd be making?? I'm certainly not spending a $100 bucks to get back our subscription, which was more than $20 bucks for two years, not to mention exchange rate for the Euro. Regardless - it was merely 30 seconds to file a case with PayPal and I'm already in process of being refunded. You imply as if Geniatech has done away the TV Guide EPG but as of now - there's been nothing rumored or official regarding EPG, 64bit, or software.
  18. Yea... I get it. I can refer back to the info. I'll only reiterate that those of you who have posted all the alternative options - to create an entirely new post and then reference it here. It would certainly go a long ways to help others who may just be discovering the problem. I only wish I had had my settings to "manually" gather EPG data. At least I would have had two weeks of info STILL on my Mac in EyeTV software. But who would ever think that when your Mac was automatically starting up to record some shows, it was also deleting your alerady stored EPG data!? --------------- Going off topic myself... I guess I'd only ask that if EyeTV app reads the xlmtv data so it can automatically record shows - as when after you've set up "smart guides"?
  19. Yea... I get it. That's what I was guessing. Actually, I've gotten frustrated that the core topic has gotten so far off course. Honestly, a whole 'nother topic should have been created - - "alternative EPG data solutions,"... or something like that, and then reference the new topic here. I've remained close to this topic that's specifically about "TV Guide EPG" -- waiting first to see if Geniatech is going to do ANYTHING. I'm sadly coming to the conclusion they're not. They STILL haven't even actually told the customers there's been a problem, let alone any updates. It looks as though I may have to look to the xmltv option. It just bites... ya know? We who have paid for the service, should NOT have to be going through this for so long, and scrapp'n for a way to make THEIR software work. Ya know? >:-/ (grrrrr)
  20. Unless I need to read back through to some specific post- - - I don't understand how you are ... as you said --- "manually load listings"? I just have the manual option to download TV Guide EPG, but of course that doesn't work. Reloading, or "updating" local over air broadcast channels doesn't get local program information either. I know I can save those scans with different dates to keep organized, but they only show the channels in your area. So what are you referring to?
  21. You're experiencing the same thing everyone else is. Sure... you'll see the software attempting to connect to download the data, but that's all you're seeing happening. There's just simply no EPG data there to download. If seeing anything happening with the internet connection were possible - regardless of macOS - the issue isn't with the connection. You can get and see necessary network statistics by clicking the "Program Guide" on eyeTV software on the left column, and then click the "TV Guide Diagnostics" button at the bottom. The "Program Guide Diagnostics" then displays thee area you're in, "Network" will show a good network connection (or not) The incorrect part will probably show your EPG database being ok, when it's not - otherwise it would have downloaded and be showing you programs.
  22. WHOAA... WHOooaa.... whOoooaa!! What is this you say? Giving up on the U.S. market? (where eyeTV began, no less) Where are you at Phillie? And what have you heard? We used free TitanTV before Geniatech nixed the ability. Since then - our paid TV Guide Service has been chugging along fine without issue for past couple years, so I honestly have had no need to check on things with the eyeTV hardware and software. I've been following the other topic mentioned, "TV Guide not Updating" for the last two weeks since our EPG went down. It actually went down a little before that. But that topic has really gone sideways and now seems more about hacks and workarounds. But getting rid of eyeTV & TV Guide in the U.S. would suck - just because it's brainless, easy, and has worked well (better before Geniatech took over) for us. So what other rumors like this have I missed?
  23. It looks like the topic, "TV GUIDE NOT UPDATING" got de-railed, and is now more about coding, hacks, and work arounds for the EPG? As to this topic: Has anyone had any luck with the actual EPG, or real answers from breakthroughs with TV Guide EPG, or with Geniatech? I've gotten the same run around and even legally threatened by Angela in Support. She basically said if anyone slanders Geniatech - they'd deal with it legally. I don't give her an ounce of credibility. The beginning of each of the last two weeks I've been given the same rubbish - their techs are working around the clock, and to wait another week. I've done that twice now. Regardless of when -- or if they get this issue fixed, I'm demanding a full refund no matter what. I don't know what options others have - depending where you're at - but I'm in the states, and I'm also filing a case (at least ) with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for failure to deliver a contracted service. My suspicion: they've completely lost any kind of TV Guide licensing and their scrambling to put together some half-a$$, make shift EPG data stream service of their own! [edit] Oh... and to date, 4:52pm, U.S. west coast time - our EPG is STILL dead.
  24. We just started having this problem the weekend before last. I see others have longer. We have a subscription period that doesn't end UNTIL late Nov. 2019!! We've received similar stupid responses from a recognizable agent, "Angela" - mostly... excuses and just out right lies. The end of last week I was told to wait until the end of this week, with ABSOLUTELY NO reasons as to why I should, and absolutely no update of the problem, or even what it REALLY is! I like others, suspect a much more foreboding problem that's just not going to end well. I also noticed things others have mentioned like... the TV Guide subscription page missing the TV Guide logo, but more importantly - that it shows "out of stock." How the hell do you run out of stock of a digital subscription unless the service/subscription just doesn't exist anymore?!!? I paid for our subscription via PayPal for this very reason. I filed a case with PayPal and asked for a full refund because of failure to provide service. Genetiach is... technically - in breach of contract. Agent Angela tried to get me to fill out an online cancellation form. I asked - - "cancel what?" I don't even have a service to cancel! Anyway... they made some kind of partial refund offer today, which I will refuse to take until I know what's going on. At this point - with absolutely no communication, no update, no resolution offered by them - I'm still only willing to accept a full refund. I've read a lot of different things people are doing to get by without the EPG data. I thought Titan TV EPG was gone? It use to be free, and that's what we used. I'll have to take a look at it again. The only other thing we do right now is use "Schedules" to create and setup manual recordings that have limited automation. (ie - record a weekly program on a certain channel at a certain time) Forget about all the extras we use to be able to do; record only "new" episodes, record anything that may contain specific titles without looking. the list goes on with what you could do with Smart Lists and Smart Guides. BTW /FYI - We just use a dedicated older mini (2010) running High Sierra with 16gigs, terabyte drive. It's got an extra external drive running backup, connected to other NAS drives - all on a CAT6e (LAN) network with 1gig IPS service, so we have no issues with actual streaming service. Besides, we just use EyeTV for over air viewing and DVR type recording /exporting to NAS drives. WE JUST WANT OUR EPG DATA SERVICE BACK! 😉 Good luck to us all!
  25. You're welcome! I hope the info helped. I didn't want anyone else go through the hassle and frustration we had to. Drove me nuts for a few days. Funny though - now we're having a similar issue with (7623) the proceeding update. Out of the blue... two of our most watched channels are gone! I've done so many different types of scans, deleting channel scan lists, but the two either don't show in the scan, or if I revert back to a saved list - the screen show GREEN this time instead of blue. BHAH hA! So... the fun starts again. Keep recording... and keep your scan data clean of bugs! ;-) ;-)
