Twisting this topic a bit. Been using an EyeTV HD on a Mac for 15 years (ugggh) connected via component to a very large cable companies box here in the USA. I know that it is supposed to be 720P or 1080i and I was used to that "HD" quality , or so I thought. During the week off, till AGB saved the day, I was streaming via their website using Chrome. It looked great -- but no buffer to go back and forth, no saving shows (locally) via the "analog hole", etc. After resurrecting the EyeTV HD again and looking at the quality (trying both 720P or 1080i) it looks terrible compared to streaming via the web app and a browser. Really terrible, tried different setting in the cable box and different setting in the EyeTV HD. Web streaming wins quality every time, it is not even close. Same monitor of course... Question: Anybody else compare their El Gato/Geniatech quality to the native streaming app for your service? I have come to the conclusion that it is time to unplug the EyeTV HD, its been a good run....not worth the (future)hassle if the quality sucks. Potential savings of the rip-off $12/month I pay for the cable box.

Are you F'ing kidding me! AGB you are a genius, thanks! Took me a minute to figure out what Sentinel was, got it from MacUpdate, it is called Sentinel (duhh). Unzipped, launched, dropped EyeTv on the self-signed section. I had to launch and quit EyeTV a couple times, WORKS! Again, AGB, my gratitude to you sir!

"Do you really believe after all this years that this software is still active ?" it was up until 15.4 "that someone cares" not in the least ", that they send your registraion key." When I got a new system my EyeTV code was flagged as already used. This was in November of 2024. After many emails to support I bought another license (I could dispute with my credit card company if the code did not work) -- the system sent it and it worked up until this week... Is this the end? most likely, unless someone smarter than me figures out something to do to the system to "fix" whatever the issue is. Do I think Geniatech will post an update, no way.

Yep, beach ball of death, did all the voodoo I knew. Restart cable box, run EyeTV setup assistant, USB unplugs, nothing. I'll check back in a few days to see if anybody has a hack/fix. Mini M2 Pro, EyeTV HD, Comcast component cable box. It's been a pretty good run, I will miss EyeTV if this is the end of the line....

Well dang. Just updated my 2022 Mac Mini to a 2024 Mini. Same BS...screenshot below. Sent an email to support.

M2 Pro mini, 14.1.1, 4.0.0 (8532), EyeTV HD, USA, woks fine for me. Whatever the previous version did as well, no problems. I am still pissed though about the guide DOA all these years. 😠

This just showed up today: 8532. I am on a 2023 M2 Pro Mini running 14.1.1, didn't have any issues with 8528 though....YMMV. Goes without saying, EPG still dead dead dead.

I re-did yesterday's tries using these steps EXACTLY as Pippo detailed. EyeTV is now working, thanks! Remember to save the script and the frame lib to your "Downloads" folder. The password should be the same password you set for the (admin) user that you are "logged" into on your Mac. I a not (yet) on Apple silicon, just old fashioned Intel i7, 2017 iMac. Waiting for a proper 27" iMac, just like I am waiting for the f#$ing EPG to work again with EyeTV. 😑

Same error for me, 8258 installed, FWAUserLib in Downloads folder, script saved to Downloads as a text file as well. It does ask for my password (login) so I think it is trying to run the script. There will be many more of us looking to use this soon as well. Thanks as well to Rened, et al., for their efforts!

I am looking for an answer to this as well, descriptions are maybe one of the most important pieces of guide information and it even shows descriptions in their (geniatech advertising/web pages) screen shots of the guides!

A little off topic for EyeTV 3 guide users: Do you actually see the program description in the guide, not actors, names, but an actual description of the show? For instance, Junkyard Empire: "Andy transforms an old ambulance into a Maryland sportsmobile for a fellow college alumnus, then thinks outside the box to soup up a vehicle for a buddy in blue." Ever since EyeTV 4 there have been NO show descriptions in my paid for guide? I reported it and of course it took several emails till I think they understood the issue. The response from many many months ago was we are working on it. EyeTV4 users: Are you all missing the description like me? Thanks.

Hmmm, EyeTV4 4.0.0 (8524) seems to be workingfine (mostly...) on Big Sur. No freezes. There is an issue now when I use the. >>. or. << they don't work like before they skip ahead with no preview a fixed amount in the correct direction. What happened to the smooth visible video but faster playback and rewind using these buttons? Scan rate set at 32xx like previous version.

October 11: Yep, same here. 8523. After wasting a half hour (and cussing like a drunken sailor) doing everything (ie rebooting everything including the set top box), running the install assistant, yadda yadda I got the old app out of the trash and threw out the new one. The old app still works as well as it ever did. What a kick in butt from Geniatech to cause it to lose access to the tuner.....not acceptable. Hardware: EyeTV HD for the record. October 18, today: Version 4.0. "Release Candidate" 4.0.0 (8523) showed up again, so they haven't even pulled the bad update and it is still being sent out for install?????

Using EyeTV4 (8518) paid for new license. Renewed EPG as well, "EyeTV Premium EPG NA" subscription updated (PAID) even though there were several non-usable months as the timer tolled the OLD TVGuide EPG. As far as I can tell NO shows list a description of the episode, no movie lists a description, nothing is listed for any show. Just a link to IMDB which launches the IMDB search page. This is useless and does not link back to the actual data that would be part of the listing. Is this the new normal, we have no idea what the episode/description is for any show? Was there any notification from Geniatech they were no longer including this data? How do I get show descriptions like I have had for the last 8 years? 3 screenshots: 1) Old TVGuide screenshot showing where the description is part of the guide data, edit info from old recording 2) New 1 showing --> go to IMDB --- guide with NO description. 3) New 2 showing --> go to IMDB --- guide with NO description.

Yup, there is a DEBUG menu item.....ooops! 4.0.0 8518 I like the debug menu but can't figure out what 1/10 of the items are. I don't have the slowness that you have though just all the regular bugs that are still there from the beta, we are still in beta right but now can buy it to update the activation keys? Oh wait, the word BETA is no longer part of the splash screen....
